Compel Essex Highways to Safeguard Railway Crossing at Mountnessing Road

Hello,

<p

These are my concerns over the safety at the railway crossing in Mountnessing Road</p

I did raise a petition at change.org but I have been told this is not relevant to anyone; although signed by 575 Billericay people.

A recent planning application is to allow 480 new homes to be built at land at the junction of Mountnessing Road and London Road in Billericay. The application suggested that Essex Highways deemed the railway crossing in Mountnessing Road as safe for pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchair users and mums or dads with buggies and pushchairs. The onus was on Essex Highways to suggest that this railway crossing met impact assessments relating to an additional 480 homes and associated people and traffic etc.

I am suggesting that this is not the case, and the footpaths along the sides of the road are too narrow, the footpaths leading to the crossing are not safe for wheelchair users, or wide enough, that the DDA act and Equality acts expect reasonable adjustments to be made in any new planning applications which has not been assessed correctly and safely.

In essence, the crossing is unsafe for traffic hence a recent accident closing this stretch of road for some days, let alone children and cyclists trying to cross this bridge at any time during day or night, and I implore that Essex Councillors ensure that Essex Highways, along with Network Rail, make a safe crossing at this bridge for pedestrians, and also to reduce the speed of traffic where vehicles can drive at 30mph inside the law over an unsafe stretch of road which is blind at this speed.
